Executive summary

Flamenco
The Flanders Agency for Mobility and Cooperation in Higher Education (Flamenco) was established in October 2008 on the initiative of the Flemish higher education umbrella organisations: the Flemish Interuniversity Council (VLIR) and the Council of Flemish University Colleges (VLHORA).
The main mission of Flamenco is to represent the 6 universities and the 22 university colleges and to contribute to the internationalisation of the Flemish higher education.

Internationalisation manual
Flamenco was given the assigment by the Department of Education to develop a manual on internationalisation. In the course of the year 2010 a web-based version of this manual will be published on the Flamenco website. The target group of the publication consists of the international officers at the Flemish institutions for higher education.

Study in Flanders
"Study in Flanders" is a project run by Flamenco. The website www.studyinflanders.be provides information about study opportunities in Flanders, Belgium for foreign students, researchers and academics.
The information is clustered in different chapters: Flanders, the Flemish higher education system, research, and practical information on how to prepare your stay.
Information regarding the higher education institutions and the study programmes (accredited non Dutch-language courses) can be retrieved through search engines. Further details and contact references are summarised in fact sheets.
In the context of the promotion of the Flemish higher education, delegations of representatives from higher education institutions from Thailand and Brasil were hosted by Flamenco.

Pascal Universities' regional Engagement (PURE)
The Pascal project, Pascal Universities' Regional Engagement (PURE) found its origins in the seminal work done by OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development) in the past decade, and in particular from the project Supporting the Contribution of Higher Education to Regional Development, which involved 14 regions on five continents and culminated in the publication of Higher Education and Regions: Globally Competitive, Regionally Engaged in 2007.
A corhort of PURE regions began work together in early 2009 by preparing the biref Regional Profiles (RPs) and Regional Briefing Papers (RBPs). The principal purpose of the RPs and RBPs is to orient the Consultative Development Groups who visited each region in March - April 2009.
In 2009 Flamenco coordinates the project for the Flanders region.

Think Europe
In the context of the broader internationalisation debate, Flamenco organised panel discussions about European politics and the European Union in 2008 and 2009.
